A breezy comedy of modern manners that turns poignant and deeply affecting by its end. Margulies touches chords that resonate with a deep, affecting humanity. --Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Examiner
Dinner With Friends is the poignantly humorous story of two married couples who have been best friends for many years. When one couple decides to separate, the other is left to examine their own marriage. Donald Margulies based this story on the changing relationships he observed among his friends. His own marriage has lasted over 20 years. The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2000.
Skillful construction...keen psychological insight. Margulies is a master of observing what might seem old hat with fresh eyes, hearing it with fresh ears. The wonderful Dinner With Friends is entertaining as succulent as it is sobering. --John Simon, New York
John Batalino has directed and appeared in many productions throughout the Central Coast. The cast features Lori Cunningham (Last of the Red Hot Lovers), Dwain Edwards (An Almost Perfect Person), Gailee Walker (Lips Together-Teeth Apart), and London Cain (Laundry and Bourbon/Lone Star) as the two couples.
A true feast. Dinner With Friends is sober, wise and extremely funny...Mr. Margulies writes with elegance and wit about intimacy, trust, privacy and the toll of time and monogomy on sexual passion, matters that aren't easily expressed in dramatic dialogue." --Vincent Canby, New York Times
