Playwright Don Gordon has created an unusual, basically tender, evolving relationship between an artist depressed by a tragic event in his life and an upper-class married woman who turns up at his shabby apartment with an unlikely mission. She has applied for a personalized license plate tagged PANACHE for her personal reasons only to find that it has already been assigned to him. She wants him to relinquish it, but he has his reasons for refusing...a growing friendship ensues out of this situation, and the circumstances of each character's life points toward romantic sparks.
