by Bernard Slade

The famous romantic comedy, running from July 10 through August 15, 2009

The Pewter Plough is presenting Same Time, Next Year by Bernard Slade, one of the most popular and acclaimed romantic comedies of all time, a touching story of love, romance, and ultimately friendship, trust and insight into our evolving culture. Doris and George are star-struck lovers, seemingly happily married to others. They are smitten when they meet at a California country inn and begin a unique relationship which leads them to continue meeting for an annual clandestine rendezvous at the same time and place for the next 25 years, when they each share confidences about their lives at home and enjoy moments of stolen passion and love. As they become closer and mature over the years, the play captures the inevitable changes in their lives and also the changes in our society, the counterculture spawned in the 60s, the women's movement, the Vietnam War, music, and fashions, all cleverly reflected in the story.

The play originally ran four years on Broadway — one of the longest running shows on record — winning a Tony Award for leading actress Ellen Burstyn, who reprised her role in the film opposite Alan Alda. Same Time, Next Year has become an enduring favorite of audiences everywhere. The Pewter Plough presented a very well received Readers' Theatre version of the play a year ago, with the present cast, which paved the way for this full production.

Our cast features Kelli Rodda as Doris and David Norum as George, both of whom have appeared before on the PPP stage in leading roles. The Director is Anita Schwaber, who has directed many shows at the Plough. The play contains mature themes.
