Fascinating Gershwin!

A Holiday Musical Celebration for George and Ira Gershwin!

Nov 25 - Dec 31, 2011

One of the Pewter Plough's most popular of its original musicals is being revived for a gala opening on Nov 25, running through the holidays to New Year's Eve. The play is a musical memoir showcasing the extraordinary songs of America's favorite composing team, George and Ira Gershwin, told from the standpoint of a fictional club meeting of talented friends who make up the Gershwin Society, all getting together around the grand piano to sing and share entertaining anecdotes and humorous reminiscences from the Gershwin years! Over 40 songs are featured, many beloved classics of the Great American Songbook, including Rhapsody In Blue, Summertime, A Foggy Day, Lady Be Good, Embraceable You, The Man I Love, Fascinating Rhythm, Our Love Is Here To Stay, They Can't Take That Away From Me, I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise, How Long Has This Been Goin' On?, the show-stopper duet from Porgy and Bess, plus so many more!

Presented to acclaim in 2005, the full original cast is returning, with Wayne Attoe, Laurelle Barnett, Jim Buckley, Jim Conroy, Viv Goff, David Manion at the piano (and vocals) and new cast member George Anderson. The play is written and directed by Jim Buckley, Artistic Director and Founder of the PPP, who will be celebrating his 99th birthday during the show's run. The Musical Director is David Manion and the Company Manager is Viv Goff.

Press comments from the 2005 show:

...charming and tuneful...a fine mix of vocal talents and personalities...the Porgy and Bess centerpiece duet soars... [the Pewter Plough] is just right for this kind of intimate show — Joan Crowder, The Cambrian and The Tribune

[It] entertains and edifies...this is a show about memories we make over a lifetime and how the music of George and Ira Gershwin became a soundtrack for our lives — Glen Starkey, New Times
